What this covers

These terms apply to juvelaw.com and everything served from it, including the pages, the feeds and the dataset endpoints. Using the site means accepting them. No account is required and nothing is charged.

This is not legal advice

Nothing on this site is legal advice and nothing creates a lawyer–client relationship. The material is comparative reference information written for researchers. It simplifies, it is dated as at a stated day, and it is not a substitute for the statute, the judgment or a qualified practitioner in the jurisdiction concerned.

Juvenile law is jurisdiction-specific and changes frequently. Check the current position before relying on anything here — including by following the source link attached to the field you are relying on.

Licence and reuse

The compiled dataset — the structured fields, the tables, the way the material is organised, and the CSV and JSON exports — is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). You may copy, redistribute, adapt and build on it, including commercially, provided you give attribution and indicate whether you changed anything.

The site's own writing — narrative summaries, explainers, research and opinion pieces — is also available under the same licence unless a page says otherwise. The software, the design and the name JuveLaw are not.

A licence we grant cannot cover material that is not ours. Statutes, judgments and the texts of international instruments have whatever status their own jurisdictions and publishers give them; quoted provisions appear here for identification and study, and the adopting body's or law reporter's publication is authoritative. Where a source is credited on a page, that source's terms govern the material it supplied.

How to attribute

Name JuveLaw, link to the page or dataset you used, and give the date you retrieved it — the last of the three matters most here, because the record changes as the law does. The suggested citation string is on the data page and is included in the metadata of every JSON export.

Please do not present a figure from here as unqualified fact without its "as of" date. It is the difference between citing a tracker and citing a rumour.

Acceptable use

You may not use this site or its data to:

• Attempt to identify, or assist in identifying, any child who is a subject of a case recorded here — including by combining this material with any other source. This is the one prohibition this site genuinely cares about, and it survives the licence: the CC BY grant covers copying and adaptation, not re-identification.
• Present the material as legal advice, or as an authoritative statement of current law in any jurisdiction.
• Misrepresent what a figure means — for instance describing the minimum age of criminal responsibility as the age at which a child can be imprisoned. The data dictionary says what each field is.
• Impose load that degrades the site for others. The exports exist precisely so that nobody needs to scrape the pages; use them.
• Attempt to gain access to the administrative interface or any non-public data.

Automated access and AI systems

Crawling, indexing and training on this material are permitted, and the crawlers of the major AI systems are explicitly allowed in robots.txt. A reference work is useful in proportion to how often it is read, and an assistant citing a sourced figure is a better outcome than the same question answered from memory.

The same conditions apply as to a human reader: attribute, carry the "as of" date, do not restate a summary as advice, and do not attempt to resolve an anonymised case caption to a person. /llms.txt sets out the dictionary, the dataset addresses and the citation string.

Accuracy and availability

The site is provided as it is. Considerable care goes into it and the method is documented, but no warranty is given that any figure is complete, current or fit for a particular purpose, and some of what is published is certainly out of date already. If you find an error, report it — that is the mechanism, and it works.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from reliance on this material, from its unavailability, or from the content of any site linked from here. Nothing in these terms limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes, links and law

These terms may change; the version on this page is the one in force. Links to other sites are provided because they are sources, and we are not responsible for what they say.

These terms are governed by the law of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. Nothing in this clause removes a consumer protection you have under the law of the country you live in.
